REGISTERED MIDWIFE (she/her)
To the birthers and families who have chosen Rosehips Midwifery for their postpartum care, thank you! I am honoured to be a part of your team.
I am a Registered Midwife with full privileges at Victoria General Hospital. I have been practising midwifery on the territory of the Lekwungen-speaking People since my graduation from the UBC Midwifery Program in 2020. I practise midwifery with compassion, non-judgement, and always through a harm-reduction lens.
I am a mother. My experience raising two fierce and squirmy babies has profoundly changed the way I approach postpartum care. I am always mindful of the overwhelming vulnerability that comes with bringing new life into the world. At the same time, I know there is deep strength rooted in that vulnerability if we are supported to access it.
I have a background as a front-line mental health worker, harm reduction advocate, and researcher. As a midwife, I have a special interest in serving pregnant people who use substances or are in remission from Substance Use Disorder, and have always worked closely with the amazing HerWay Home project. I am also a clinical instructor and course tutor for the UBC Faculty of Midwifery. I love to teach and will have students working with me from time to time.
In my spare time, I enjoy going on adventures with my family, swimming outside, banging on my drums, and reading a good book. I am really looking forward to meeting you soon!

REGISTERED MIDWIFE (she/her)
I am Ali, and I am grateful to live and work in the beautiful territories of the Lekwungen-speaking Indigenous peoples. Midwifery was a mid-career change motivated by the wonderful care I received when birthing my son under the care of midwives. I was inspired by the opportunity to support families through life transitions, and to serve families in the sometimes vulnerable early weeks after birth. My favourite aspect of being a midwife is building relationships with clients, and I believe the most important skills I have as a midwife are listening and empathy.
After graduating from the UBC Midwifery Program, I worked in a full scope practice caring for pregnant, birthing and postpartum families. I recognized that I have a special love for helping postpartum folks as they blossom into new families or add a new sibling into the mix, and was grateful to join the Rosehips Postpartum Team. I am also honoured to work with a program in Victoria that supports families experiencing pregnancy loss.
My background is in anthropology, history, adult education, and restorative justice processes. I am a clinical instructor for the UBC Midwifery Program, and I really enjoy mentoring student midwives as they develop their skills.
When I am not with birthing folks, newborns and families, the things I love the most are spending time with my son and our friends in our beautiful city and around the Island, spending time in our garden, foraging edible plants, eating delicious food, and travelling.

REGISTERED MIDWIFE, LACTATION CONSULTANT (she/her)
Hi, I’m Rebecca. I am a Registered Midwife and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am honoured to care for you after the birth of your baby. It is my goal for you to feel safe and heard, and I take a kind, trauma-informed approach with all my clients.
Since graduating from UBC’s Midwifery Program I have practised midwifery all across rural and remote B.C., as well as in remote communities across Canada’s northern territories. Now, I gratefully live and practise on the beautiful territory of the Lekungwen-speaking people.
I have a diverse background in midwifery, science, fine arts, sexual health education, and teaching. I have also been fortunate to travel globally for my education. In Australia, I obtained my Masters of Fine Arts and my Cabinetry Certification. Additionally, I co-founded an arts centre in Sydney, Australia.
This creative work combined advocacy and my passion for mindful community, which has evolved into the way I practise as a full-time midwife, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, clinical preceptor and sessional teaching faculty at UBC’s Faculty of Midwifery. Teaching is a cornerstone of my practice as I feel it is essential that we mentor and support the next generation of health care professionals to provide compassionate, thorough and patient-centred care.
When not catching babies, I can be found in coveralls making art, listening to records or sipping a cup of coffee. I am excited to meet and work with you!

REGISTERED MIDWIFE, LACTATION CONSULTANT (they/them)
Hello! I’m Rowan Katie McNiven Gladman. I have been a healthcare practitioner in the field of birth support since I graduated with a Bachelor of Midwifery from UBC in 2009. I have provided full-scope midwifery, lactation, and postpartum care in both rural and urban settings around the province during my thirteen years of practice. In 2013, I completed an additional year of lactation training and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to enhance my ability to provide informed, specialized care.
I am especially enthusiastic about providing care for transgender and queer parents, including folks seeking support with induced lactation. As a member of the LGBTQ2SIA community, I’m attuned to gaps of care in the birthing field for transgender and queer parents and continuously work to close the gaps. Anti-oppressive practice is a cornerstone of my approach.
My additional areas of interest and specialization include: feeding support for babies in the NICU, pre-term infants, poor weight gain, nipple shield dependence, painful latching, low milk supply, and tongue ties. I have considerable experience developing solutions for feeding difficulties that often come hand-in-hand with newborns requiring special care, including low birth weight. I am particularly keen to grow my practice with supporting families during the transition from NICU to home.
As Midwifery Program Preceptor with the UBC Clinical Faculty, I periodically take on midwifery students to support the continued learning and growth of this important field of work. When students are with me, I communicate in advance to all clients prior to consultations.
I was previously known throughout the community as Katie McNiven and have recently transitioned to Rowan, a more fitting name. When I’m not deep diving into research about birth and infant feeding, I love to grow vegetables, travel around Vancouver Island, and spend time with the many diverse communities I am grateful to be part of.
I share a home in Victoria where I proudly wear many hats - a parent, partner, and animal care-taker to seven quails, three cats, one rabbit, and a fish named Love.
I can’t wait to meet you and support your growing family.

REGISTERED MIDWIFE, REGISTERED SOCIAL WORKER (MSW) (she/her)
Hi! My name is Adrienne and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Rosehips team. I’m an intentional solo-parent and have one young kiddo. I moved to the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples after graduation from midwifery school, and I couldn’t be happier to call this place home. I have been a Registered Midwife since 2013, and a Registered Social Worker since September 2023. Through these two professional lenses I hope to help you make sense of the challenges of pregnancy and postpartum by offering additional mental health support.
Through my social work education I have been taught about the benefits of unconditional positive regard on therapeutic relationships, and strive to impart that in our work together. My counseling style is informed by narrative therapy, as well as the theories of polyvagal somatic embodiment, and attachment.
With a referral from your primary care provider in pregnancy, I offer MSP-covered 1:1 relational counselling to help you along your reproductive journey and up to 6 weeks postpartum.
